Living shorelines are a generalized group of artificial shoreline stabilization methods that can be applied along sheltered shorelines to mimic some aspect of naturally stable shorelines or enhance the ecology of the shore zone.

This presentation will discuss:

  • The materials used to develop proper stabilization methods
  • Different application techniques based on the energy of the coastal system
  • Effects from waves, wakes, currents, ice, and geography have on the coastal system
  • Guidance for selecting appropriate designs based on available tools and regulations.
